On Thursday, February 19 at 7:00 PM, the festival organizers invite you to an emotional and mesmerizing opening of the 10th Klaipėda Light Festival and the Year of Social Responsibility.

The synergy of visuals, light, sound, lasers, projections, and live performance will reveal the most beautiful threads of us as a society and community, inviting us to strengthen connections, create new bonds, and appreciate what matters most.

Illuminated by visions of the future, a symbol of Klaipėda – the reborn castle tower – will become the core of the Klaipėda Light Festival, followed by the illumination of all festival objects and installations.

The opening of the festival will be highlighted by a concert from artist Free Finga.

Laser mapping project  MEETING YOU

A record-breaking laser mapping project will take place in the heart of Klaipėda, along the 409-meter-long Tiltų Street. As many as 33 building façades along the street will become part of a single, unified light artwork, transformed through high-resolution laser projection. Over the course of three evenings, Tiltų Street will turn into a living stage of light and shadow. Visitors are invited not only to watch, but also to slowly walk along the street, experiencing the city on a new scale. The light projection changes as people move, creating a continuous visual rhythm. This is the largest project of its kind in Lithuania. The installation offers a temporary yet memorable urban experience.

Inclusive video projection THE FUTURE KLAIPĖDA THAT I CREATED

Hundreds of drawings created by residents of Klaipėda and people who love the city come together in the vibrant video projection “The Future Klaipėda That I Created.” The projection brings the newly restored Klaipėda Castle tower to life, transforming it into a meeting point between history and the future. On the façade of this centuries-old architecture, the dreams, joys, and concerns of the drawings’ authors unfold, reflecting the world we aspire to live in. The drawings become a living projection – a visual passage into tomorrow, where the values of friendship, safety, and responsibility take center stage.

Experimental audiovisual installation DIVINE GEOMETRY

“Divine Geometry” is a multilayered audiovisual experience that brings together light, form, and sound into a unified, meditative process. The project functions not only as a visual artwork, but also as a subtle guide into inner states, inviting the viewer to slow down, listen inwardly, and experience a deeper connection with oneself. A core element of the project is a specially composed 30-minute sound track created exclusively for this installation, serving as an invisible narrative framework. It was developed in collaboration with the well-known Latvian producer and sound artist Pēteris Pāss. “Divine Geometry” explores the complexity and harmony of the natural world. The ring symbolizes life, nature, and the mathematical beauty that connects all living organisms. The installation consists of 24 lasers arranged in a circular formation, creating an intense, psychedelic experience.

You are part of the artwork. THE PROJECT FACES

This is an impressive, vibrant, and contemporary art project that invites not only observation, but active participation. The project “Faces” connects people through a shared creative experience, turning each participant into an integral part of the artwork. It is striking how a simple action — taking a selfie — becomes a meaningful symbol of connection and community. The constantly evolving visual collage reflects diversity while simultaneously emphasizing our shared unity. This installation not only captures attention but also creates an emotional bond between strangers. Its interactive format encourages dialogue, curiosity, and engagement. The project demonstrates how technology can become not a source of separation, but a bridge between people. “Faces” is a unifying community experience that leaves a strong impression and a lasting emotional impact.

Video projection – an architectural journey NOSTALGIA

Inspired by the spirit of the 1980s and 1990s, this large-scale projection transforms a building façade into a living scene of memories. Wooden toys, fragments of magnetic cassette tapes, and old-school musical motifs reappear in a new form — filtered through contemporary movement, light, and digital rhythm. It is not only a visual experience, but also an emotional journey back to a time when sound felt tangible and images were slower and warmer.

The project creates a playful dialogue between past and present, where analog memories are transformed into modern, pulsating visual compositions. The monumental projection envelops the architecture, giving it a new voice and turning the building into a kind of time machine. This installation connects generations, awakens collective memory, and allows nostalgia to be experienced not as longing for the past, but as a living, contemporary experience — warm and deeply emotional.

Kinetic interactive installation THE CAT THAT SLEPT FOR A THOUSAND YEAR

“The Cat That Slept for a Thousand Years” is an impressive kinetic installation measuring 10 meters in length and 3.5 meters in height. This giant, sleeping cat snores, purrs, twitches its ear, and swishes its tail, inviting visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in a lively, sensitive, and unexpectedly intimate experience.

The installation responds to human presence—the more visitors gather around it, the more restless the cat becomes. Visitors are encouraged to show affection by stroking or hugging the cat and can feel its deep, powerful purring resonating as vibrations throughout the body. Internal lighting gently shifts in sync with the cat’s movements, while the soundscape—purring and occasional snoring—enhances the sense of aliveness.

Using innovative Air Giants soft robotics technology, the cat’s ears and tail move as if it genuinely senses the proximity of the audience. As suggested by the title, the cat sleeps for a very long time. This becomes a playful yet meaningful invitation to reflect on the long-term future, care, responsibility, humanity’s capacity for empathy, and themes of climate change.

Air Giants is a creative robotics studio known for creating monumental, nature-inspired robotic creatures. They are the first in the world to develop interactive soft robotics on this scale and to present it in public spaces.

Audiovisual Storytelling  ONCE WE WERE TREES

The project is a contemporary interpretation of the Lithuanian myth “Eglė, the Queen of Serpents,” told from a previously unseen perspective—that of her daughter Drebulė. The narrative diverges from the traditional version at the moment when Eglė is about to curse herself and her children. In this new vision, sutartinės emerge—the voices of a women’s choir that, through ritualistic chants and dance motifs, encircle the mother and her children, persuading Eglė not to pass on to future generations the painful experiences she herself has endured.

The project brings together sustainable practices and digital innovation. The cyanotype technique, which uses sunlight, natural pigments, and leaves as stencils, reduces environmental impact and strengthens a direct connection with nature. The resulting images are digitized and integrated with 2D animation, creating an experimental visual language

Project THE SAME VOICE

“The Same Voice” is a project about linguistic and dialectal diversity as a unifying rather than a dividing force. In Lithuania, several dialects exist; in the world, there are thousands of languages. They sound different, carry different rhythms, melodies, and forms, yet the meaning they convey remains the same. The word “friend” is pronounced differently in different languages, but everywhere it means the same thing – closeness, trust, connection. A different sound does not change the essence. The project invites us to listen more deeply: not to how a word sounds, but to what it means. “The Same Voice” reminds us that beneath different sounds lies the same human experience – the desire to be understood, heard, and accepted.

Audiovisual installation FIRST LIGHT

“First Light” is an audiovisual installation that connects cultural heritage with modern technology. Inspired by the symbol of the sun – a starting point, a constant transformation — the installation offers a clear, minimal experience built around light, reflection, and sound. The structure stands approximately 5 meters tall and 6 meters wide. It’s covered with polished brass plates, specially treated by Latvian designer Mārcis Ziemiņš. As light hits the surface, the brass creates dynamic reflections that shift depending on the viewer’s position. Inside, 250 meters of COB digital LED strips deliver bright, clean white light. The lighting is synchronized with a custom soundscape by Pēteris Pāss, creating a complete audiovisual environment without overwhelming the space. First Light is built from durable, reusable materials. Most elements are recyclable, following a straightforward approach to sustainability without compromising on quality or aesthetics.

Video projection THE ANATOMY OF LIGHT

The project is a newly created light installation based on analog projection technologies and moving mechanical systems, designed to visualize internal processes of the human body. The installation explores how the human body changes and functions — from the circulatory system to neural networks — using light, movement, and mechanics.

Unlike digital or conventional projection installations, all visuals in this project are generated by physical, mechanically moving devices, which visitors can observe as an integral part of the installation itself. Here, light is not merely the final result — it emerges from kinetic structures, mechanical motion, and analog processes, making the act of creation inseparable from the artistic experience.

The artist collective Lightspray Visual has been working for over ten years with a unique projection system, creating moving devices that generate visuals through analog methods. Inspired by the theme of the Klaipėda festival, the artists present a project that reflects the transformations of the human body. This project aims to raise awareness of the importance of health, particularly in the context of the Year of Social Responsibility.

Project LENS OF TIME

For the Klaipėda Light Festival, the Kretinga Museum is bringing a genuine, previously unseen historical artifact from the Tiškevičiai Palace in Kretinga. An authentic 19th-century stained-glass window from the palace interior, combined with light and historical context, creates a kind of temporal lens, allowing viewers to trace the footprints of the Kretinga Counts in old Klaipėda. Count Juozapas, the head of the family and Kretinga’s number-one visionary, saw ample space and opportunity in old Klaipėda to realize ideas that were often ahead of their time. And who knows now what might have been…

A meeting of light, imagination, and children’s creativity in the city space. The “Aquarium of Lights” is a light installation in the city center, creating the illusion of an underwater world. The glass space transforms into a glowing aquarium, filled with water animals, sea creatures, and fantastical forms crafted by the students of the Social Services Centre “Klaipėdos lakštutė.”

The installation features fish, whales, sea plants, and other aquatic inhabitants. Water is the essential medium of transitions, as everything began with a drop of water. The first forms of life emerged in water, which over millions of years gave rise to the diversity of life we know today. Water became the first space for evolution—movement, transformation, and adaptation.
